Route 70 Bridge Project Shifts Traffic Friday Night
The next stage of a project replacing the span over Route 38 is getting underway.

The next stage of a $3.9 million bridge replacement project will shift traffic on Route 70 westbound in Pennsauken Friday night, as demolition and reconstruction moves to the center lane, county officials said.
The ongoing project, which is replacing the span over Route 38, will leave two lanes open on the bridge at most times, routing traffic to the left- and right-hand lanes, the latter of which has already been rebuilt.
Drivers headed for the Browning Road and Marlton Pike ramps should stay in the right-hand lane when heading through the construction zone, officials said, because of the extent of the lane shift.

“Motorists need to be aware of the new traffic pattern and drive with caution through the area,” said freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works.
During the busiest portions of the day, two lanes will be open on the bridge, state officials said, but contractor R.E. Pierson Construction will periodically narrow the highway to one lane at the bridge, both overnight and during midday hours.

There will also be single-lane closures on Route 38 overnight, officials said, but all lanes should be open under the bridge, though lanes may shift during construction.
The entire project involves a complete replacement of the bridge deck, new bridge parapets and guide rails and crosswalks in the area of the bridge, and should be completed some time this winter, depending on weather and other factors, officials said.
