Services Set For Former Haddonfield Principal

Michael Wilson was the principal at Haddonfield High School and the Elizabeth Haddon School. He was also the assistant superintendent.

Funeral services will be held this week for a Blackwood man who spent more than 30 years as an educator in the region. Michael P. Wilson passed away on Feb. 20 at the age of 57, according to his online obituary.

“All of us in the Haddonfield and greater Haddonfield community remember Mike’s contributions to our schools and send our sincere and deepest condolence to Mike’s wife, their children and the entire Wilson family,” the Haddonfield Public School District said in a social media post.

Wilson served as the principal at Haddonfield Memorial High School and the Elizabeth Haddon School, according to the school district. He was also the district’s assistant superintendent.

The Philadelphia native began his career with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, then moved on to Upper Darby School District where he was appointed to his first principal position, according to his obituary. He then served in the North Penn School District before moving on to Haddonfield.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from Villanova University and his master’s degree from Widener University.

His legacy is remembered as that of a mentor, educator and giving man who strived to bring the best out of people that he met along his life. His passion was his family and creating memories that they will cherish as his legacy.

Vacations to Wildwood, trips to the Pocono Mountains and Cruises to exotic ports were experiences that he enjoyed most in is life. He was an avid Philadelphia Sports fan who finally got to celebrate an Eagles Super Bowl Championship in 2018.

“Most of all, Mike will be remembered as a quick-witted, engaging man who always had a great story to share and will be long remembered for his warmth and approachable personality,” according to his obituary.

He is the beloved husband of 31 years to Debbie (nee Cooke); loving father of Sarah Wilson, Michael and his wife, Erika Wilson, dear brother of Carol (Jim) Griffiths & William (Michelle) Wilson; also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, friends and family.

Visitation will take place 5 p.m. Wednesday at McGuinness Funeral Home, 573 Egg Harbor Road in Washington Township.
