Unload Household Waste in Pennsauken Saturday

Looking to get rid of an old car battery or some old paint thinner?

Well, we've got some good news for you.

Camden County will host a special collection for household waste Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Pennsauken.

The drop-off site is located at 900 River Rd., at Pennsauken's Sanitary Landfill.

Camden County residents are asked to keep the environment healthy by bringing oil-based paints, solvents, thinners, pesticides, herbicides, gasoline, kerosene, polishes, photographic chemicals, automotive batteries, antifreeze, brake fluid, transmission fluid and other car products, pool chemicals, and cleaning fluids to the convenient drive-through disposal site.

“This program provides one of the easiest and most convenient ways for all Camden County residents to chip in when it comes to creating a better environment for us all,” Freeholder Jeffrey Nash said. “It is very important to be able to provide this kind of service to residents because, by disposing of this material properly, we keep it out of our waste stream and prevent it from making its way to our waterways.”

Each year, Camden County’s Special Household Waste Collection Program keeps over 400,000 pounds of hazardous material from the county waste stream.

The county will not accept the following items at Saturday's collection: motor oil, air conditioners, tires, electronics, space heaters, tree limbs, medications or smoke detectors.

You will be able to rid your home of any unwanted electronics—radios, computers, TVs, VCRs, typewriters, DVD players, etc.—on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Camden County Public Works Complex on Lindenwold's Egg Harbor Road.

Can't make it to this Saturday's household waste collection? The county's Public Works complex in Lindenwold will also serve as a collection point for the same types of items being collected this week at Pennsauken on Saturday, Oct. 20.
