Asbestos Found in Hoboken Police HQ
Signs are up in Hoboken's police headquarters that asbestos is being removed from the building.

Asbestos has been found inside the Hoboken Police Department's Head Quarters on Hudson Street.
Signs that announced "cancer and lung disease hazard" were hung up.
The material is not found in the air and "it's completely safe," to be in the building, said City Spokesman Juan Melli.

Traces of the material were found but it's not airborne.
In a follow up email, Melli wrote that "while this form of asbestos would be considered the lesser hazardous form of the material, given the occupancy of the building, the most stringent guidelines have been followed to ensure public safety and the safety of the workers removing the material."

A contractor has been hired to remove the hazardous material, Melli said.
While part of the police force has been moved to trailers in the adjacent parking lot, some employees — such as the chief as well as the officers in the detective's office — are still located in the main building.
