City To Meet With NJ Transit About Potential Redevelopment Plan

Mayor and other city officials hosted a 'Redevelopment 101' session on Tuesday night.

New Jersey Transit has reached out to the city to talk about a potential new plan for the downtown tracks, Mayor Dawn Zimmer said Tuesday night.

At a seminar titled "Redevelopment 101" at the Multi Service Center, Zimmer was asked a question by a member of the public, Lane Bajardi, about whether or not the "rumors" that there's a new plan are true.

"They (NJ Transit) have come forward," Zimmer answered, adding that she has not seen the project yet. "All we've talked about is the potential process of introducing the project."

Zimmer said also that no members of her administration had seen the plan yet.

Zimmer said that the administration is putting together a briefing for the city council, which will be followed by a briefing to the public. There is also a tentative meeting scheduled on Sept. 21 to discuss the issue, the mayor said.

"I'm committed to inform the public," Zimmer said.

Development can often become a hot topic in Hoboken. The city is still working on a re-examination of the master plan.

The seminar on Tuesday night was meant to educate people about the process of redevelopment in the city, rather than talk about specific projects.

Council members Carol Marsh, Ravinder Bhalla and Peter Cunningham were among those in attendance.
