City Wants To Hire Planner for NJ Transit Development

After a response to RFQ, the city has chosen Wallace Roberts & Todd, LLC.

The Zimmer administration is hoping to hire a private planner to develop the plan for the redevelopment plan for Hoboken Terminal & Rail Yards.

The downtown area—a total of 52 acres—is in hands of NJ Transit. It's still unclear what will happen to the largest chunk of the property. Recently, NJ Transit proposed its plans for part of the development,

The development firm will be hired for the , not for the entire 52-acre project.

The city is now recommending that firm Wallace Roberts & Todd, LLC will conduct the development at the Hoboken Terminal. A resolution to hire the firm—with a contract not to exceed $77,000—will be added to the agenda of the next council meeting. 

Mayor Dawn Zimmer has said that without an agreement that ensures that Hoboken has final authority over the development, signed between the city and NJ Transit, the development can not move forward.

"I have strongly advocated for selecting and paying for a planner ourselves," Zimmer said, "so there is no doubt about whose interests they represent."
