Part of Hoboken Housing Authority Still Without Power [UPDATED]

The majority of the Hoboken Housing Authority is back up and running as of Monday

Updated 3:15 p.m. — Close to 600 units in the Hoboken Housing Authority remained without power on Monday, according to Executive Director of the HHA Carmelo Garcia.

With the help of a back generator from FEMA, Harrison Gardens was powered up on Monday afternoon, Garcia said.

Earlier on Monday morning, about 908 units — or about 1,800 residents — in the Hoboken Housing Authority remained without power, said Garcia.

While four of the six developments that make up the housing authority were up and running like normal, Harrison Gardens and Andrew Jackson Gardens remained in the dark.

Garcia said he and Mayor Dawn Zimmer were working together to restore power in the entire Housing Authority.

Garcia said he is working out of 221 Jackson St., since the main office was flooded and damaged.

"Everyting was under water," Garcia said.

The main concern right now, Garcia said, is to get the heat working again in those units that are still cold. About 1,100 blankets were given out in the Hoboken Housing Authority, Garcia said.

At Fox Hill Gardens, the HHA's senior building, power was restored as of Sunday.
