Dog Hit By Car In Hoboken Friday Morning

The dog had gotten loose, the owner told Hoboken police.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Police responded to an intersection near the the southern border of Hoboken on Friday morning on a report of a dog being hit by a car.

Police said that shortly after 10:30 a.m., a dog was struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Newark and Adams Street. The owner reported that the dog broke loose and ran into the street when the dog was hit.

A witness reported that the vehicle was stopped at the intersection prior to driving forward and striking the dog. The owner said he slid under the vehicle to rescue his dog and was bitten as he pulled his dog out.

The dog's owner, a 62-year-old man from Union City, was transported to Hoboken University Medical Center by McCabe Ambulance, police said.

Sgt. Joseph Lucignano, with the help of a witness, transported the dog in a radio car to Veterinary Emergency Group on 14th Street and Willow Avenue to be treated, police said.
