Off-Duty Hoboken Police Officer Arrests Man For Burglary

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken police arrested a man for burglary, simple assault, and possession of burglary tools Saturday evening after an off-duty officer heard a woman screaming and ordered the man to stop.

Police said that shortly after 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, Det. Sgt. Dennis Figueroa was off duty in the area of Sixth and Willow Avenue. According to police, he observed a woman screaming for help and chasing a male down the street.

The man was actually approaching Figueroa, who identified himself as a police officer and ordered the man to stop.

The man, later identified as Tony Watson, stopped running when ordered to.

Additional police personnel arrived and investigated.

Watson was arrested for burglary (allegedly entering a building), having burglary tools (using a tool to enter a building) and simple assault. Police said, "The simple assault charge stemmed from the female observing Mr. Watson in the building, and while trying to stop him, Mr. Watson pushed her to the ground."

Watson was processed and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

Everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
