Although one might think the fire museum at 213 Bloomfield St. is mostly for small children — there's a firetruck to climb on, and multiple toy firetrucks in a play area in the back — there's plenty for older children and adults to enjoy as well, including historic Hoboken photos, articles, and fire equipment from all eras. It's open weekends and often features storytime on Sundays. (Check out this new video of Jack Silbert reading Dot the Fire Dog!) Find out more here.
'Art Goes Green' outdoor art classes
Hoboken's Cultural Affairs Department runs programs for local children from time to time. For this weekend they announced that the Hoboken Green Team and Creative Hoboken are presenting "Art Goes Green," a series of outdoor art classes this Saturday. These include glass painting, water colors, and a nature walk and drawing. To see which classes still have space, or to get on the mailing list, click here. All participants must wear masks and practice social distancing.
This week's "Far Out"
If you haven't noticed, Amtrak's been offering unprecedented deals lately. Among them, in honor of its 50th anniversary, you can travel from New York To Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., or Boston for fares of $50 or less at certain times. Sale fares are available at amtrak.com/50th-anniversary-sale, offers valid between April 28 to May 5 for future travel between June 2 and Nov. 13. Considering the kids may be off for the NJEA teacher's convention in early November, you might want to take the train.
