Hoboken Fencer Will Compete In 2016 Summer Olympics

The 2016 games will be Hoboken resident Dagmara Wozniak's third Olympic competition.

HOBOKEN, NJ – Hoboken sports fans will have a local favorite to root for during the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

On Thursday, Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer presented a proclamation in honor of U.S. Olympian and Hoboken resident Dagmara Wozniak.

“On behalf of all Hoboken residents, I extend my best wishes to Dagmara Wozniak as she represents Team USA in the 2016 Olympic Games,” Zimmer said. “We are proud of her dedication to her team and country and know her tireless work ethic and hours of practice will lead to great results. Good luck to Dagmara and all of the athletes representing Team USA.”

According to a city news release, Dagmara will be competing at the Olympic Games in the sabre fencing individual and team competitions. This will be her third Olympic competition, as she participated in the 2012 London Olympics and as an alternate in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Dagmara earned a gold medal in the individual and team competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games, and an individual gold medal in 2011. Since 2007, Dagmara also earned a gold medal and four bronze medals in the team competitions at the World Championships.
