The Hoboken resident was a longtime church volunteer and Italian lecturer.

Hoboken resident Michele Amato, a longtime church volunteer and Italian lecturer in the community, passed away on Aug. 13.
He was 73-years-old.

“Michele Amato, 73, of Hoboken, was called home to God on Thursday August 13, 2015 in Jersey City. A retired employee with the David & Company Folding Box Corporation in Jersey City, Michele was a devoted man of faith often extending himself in assistance at all of the Catholic Churches in Hoboken when an Italian reader or lecturer was needed. Mr. Amato was also an active member of the Juventus Soccer Club. Born in Molfetta, Italy, he arrived in Hoboken in 1974.
“He will be sadly missed by his brothers, Vitangelo, and Sergio and his wife Sabina; and his cherished sisters, Marianna Amato, Rosa Binetti and her husband Luca. He was the devoted uncle to Mauro (Anna Maria) and Natale Binetti, Dimianna Cirillo and her husband Anthony, and Natale Amato. Also surviving is a great niece and nephew, Mario Luca and Rosanna Binetti.

“The Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Ann’s RC Church, Hoboken on Monday August 17, 2015 at 12 Noon. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington. Continuous Visitation will be held on Sunday August 16, 2015 beginning at 3PM and concluding at 9PM. Valet parking is available in rear of memorial home off Sixth Street.”
