Hoboken Pauses Vaccination Programs Using Johnson & Johnson Shots

HOBOKEN, NJ — Following CDC and FDA recommendations on Tuesday to pause use of the Johnson & Johnson one-dose coronavirus vaccine, the city of Hoboken has put a "temporary pause" on its programs using it, including a clinic scheduled for Tuesday at a local pharmacy and a homebound senior vaccination program.

According to city spokesman Vijay Chaudhuri, 100 people signed up for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine with Medicine Man Pharmacy on Tuesday will be rescheduled to Carepoint (Hoboken's hospital) later in the week, as it uses both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

In addition, approximately 20 homebound residents scheduled for a Johnson & Johnson shot this week will have their shots temporarily postponed, Chaudhuri said.

A statement from the city Tuesday morning said:

"Following guidance from the State Department of Health, the City of Hoboken is putting a temporary pause on homebound senior vaccinations, as well as vaccine clinics with our local pharmacies utilizing Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Those residents with appointments for Johnson & Johnson vaccines at today's clinic at 605 Jackson St. with Medicine Man Pharmacy and Compounding are being offered appointments this week through the Hoboken Health Department at Carepoint."

Hudson County also said in a release Tuesday morning that it will pause using Johnson & Johnson vaccines at its county site at the USS Juneau Center in Kearny. However, it will continue to administer the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines there (watch for more information later). They are also still taking appointments for eligible residents.
