Hoboken Pizza Restaurant Suddenly Shuts Its Doors (UPDATED)
"Expect to see something new ... in the near future," say the owners of a short-lived pizza joint on a main Hoboken street.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Verizza, we hardly knew you.
A gourmet pizza restaurant that opened on Newark Street last fall — cater-corner to City Hall — announced Sunday via email that its owners have "served our final slice."
Responding to customers on social media who asked for an explanation and praised the food, the owners replied, "We thank all our customers for your support. To answer the many who asked why we closed — we sold our operations to a different owner who will open a new concept over the summer."

In the email on Sunday, they said, "As of yesterday, VERIZZA has shut its doors for good. Although our time in Hoboken has been short, we've had a blast and would like to thank all of our customers for your fantastic support. Expect to see something new on 152 Newark Street in the near future. If you have any outstanding credit or gift cards, please contact us by email before June 15th. CIAO E GRAZIE!!"
The restaurant had earned attention for including unique varieties of pizza and toppings such as tuna.

It occupied a quaint storefront with a long history. During World War II, it was a cigar shop (photo from 1943 here).
But fear not. Hoboken has its share of other places to try, new and old, brick oven and classic. (Which pizza would you recommend in Hoboken? Comment below!)
In fact, Food and Wine Magazine recently said New Jersey has the best pizza in the country, naming two Jersey City pizzerias among the best in the state.
