Hoboken Police Announces Efforts to Promote Safety to Children
Two events by the Hoboken Police Department coming up.

Hoboken police officers will hold a police academy for Hoboken children between 12 and 15-years old.
From Monday, August 16, to Friday, August 20, the police department's Community Policing Unit will host a junior police academy on the Steven's Institute of Technology Campus. Forty applicants will be selected in a public lottery.Â
Applications will be distributed throughout city's schools and will also be available at police headquarters at One Police Plaza. The city is also thinking about starting a Community Emergency Response Team for children.

Police said the goal of the Junior Police Academy is to familiarize children with the role of a police officer. The course will be hands-on, according to the department.Â
Another effort to teach the children of Hoboken about safety will be on June 19 (yes, that's the day of the Cake Boss party on Washington and Newark Streets) when the police will host a Bicycle Registration and Safe Kid Program.Â

The Hoboken Police Department Community Policing Bureau will host the bicycle registration day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 310 Jackson St. Maybe it's a good time to register the bike you bought in yesterday's bicycle auction.Â
"The purpose of this is to encourage people to register their bikes and to help with the prevention of bicycle theft," police announced. "This will also assist the police department with the identification of bicycle theft."
