Hoboken Police Arrest Four in ShopRite Forgery Case

Police say suspects attempted to buy thousands in gift cards with fake cash

Police in Hoboken said they arrested four men last week on charges they attempted to buy thousand of dollars in gift cards with counterfeit funds at a local ShopRite grocery.

The suspects, Shaquan McPherson, 19, of Jersey City; Willie Harris, 45, of the Bronx; Kashmere Davis, 20, of the Bronx and Davaughn Hopson, 27, of Jersey City were charged with forgery, police said. McPherson was also charged with possession of marijuana.

McPherson was nabbed after he attempted to buy the gift cards at the ShopRite of Hoboken, at 900 Madison Street on the evening of January 16, police said. A manager at the store, where there have been several incidents involving counterfeit money or stolen credit cards, alerted police and an officer observed the suspect enter a Nissan Maxima, with New York license plates and the headlights turned off, according to Sgt.
