Hoboken Police Catch Alleged Bike Thief Red Handed

A 53-year-old Jersey City man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon.

Hoboken Police arrested what is a "known bicycle thief" on Wednesday afternoon. 

Ronal Crawford—53, from Jersey City—was allegedly in the midst of stealing a bike at 11th and Garden streets a little before 2 p.m., police said.  

Crawford was also allegedly in possession of a pair of red bolt cutters, police said.

The officer said he saw Crawford riding a grey colored 21 speed schwinn ranger, north bound on Garden Street.

Crawford was biking slowly and stopped to get off his bike and take another one with him, police said. As he was riding on the bike, he didn't notice the officer, police said.

When the officer came up to Crawford, according to reports, he dismounted the bike immediately.  

Both bikes—the one he was driving as well as the one he took afterward—were stolen property, police said. 

Crawford was charged with theft of movable property and possessoin of burglary tools, police said.
