Hoboken Police Charge Man With Attempted Killing Of Amazon Worker

An Amazon worker from Newark was shot outside a Hoboken Amazon facility in the wee hours last October. A Paterson man has been charged.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken police arrested a Paterson man on Monday and charged him with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of an Amazon worker outside a Hoboken Amazon facility in the wee hours of last Oct. 11.

Police arrested Corey Ferguson, 27, from Paterson on Monday and charged him with criminal attempt murder, aggravated assault, endangering an injured victim, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Police say that on Oct. 11, 2020, at about 2:30 a.m., officers responded to 940 Monroe St., on the west side of town, on a report of a male with gunshot wounds.

Officers Tyler Soto and Jesse Castellano were first to arrive and found the victim, an Amazon employee, with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and leg.

Moments later, officers Christopher Barral and Joshua Campoverde arrived. Barral provided lifesaving medical aid, police said, until the ambulance arrived.

The victim, a 32-year-old Newark man, was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was treated.

"The fast actions of Officer Barral to stop the bleeding from multiple wounds saved the victim’s life," said police.

Police soon released a surveilance video from the area to get more information.

Police declined to answer questions about a motive.

The lead detectives in the case, Michael Miranda and Christine Collins, charged Corey Ferguson on Monday on a warrant with the five charges listed above, with cooperation of the Paterson Police Department.

Ferguson was transported to the Passaic County Jail.

"This was a collaborative investigation with all detectives of the Investigation Bureau assisting Detective Miranda and Detective Collins in bringing charges against Corey Ferguson," the Hoboken police said.

Hoboken Police Chief Ken Ferrante said, “Outstanding work by so many of our uniformed officers and investigators brought two positive outcomes. First, the quick reaction and execution of his prior training led Officer Christopher Barral to saving our victim’s life and keeping him with his family. This was followed by the immediate, diligent work of our Investigations Bureau. Detectives Miranda and C. Collins were persistent in solving this case and with the assistance of many of our top-notch detectives, we finally have the apprehension of this shooter.”

The police also thanked the Hudson County Prosecutors Office, New Jersey State Police Regional Operations Intelligence Unit, Bayonne Police Department, Passaic County Homicide Unit, Paterson Narcotics Unit and Paterson Major Crime.

Officer Michael Costello, Sgt. Joseph Lucignano, Officer Tyler Soto, Officer Jesse Castellano, Det. Adam Colon, Officer Christopher Barral, Officer Joshua Campoverde, Officer Tyrone Huggins, and Officer Jason Montalvo responded to the shooting in October.
