Hoboken Police Honor Memory of Detective

Department to recognize Detective Madhu Chohan at annual National Night Out event on Tuesday.

The Hoboken Police Department will honor the memory Tuesday of a detective who died last year of a brain tumor.

The city’s annual National Night Out event will begin with a proclamation ceremony at City Hall for Detective Madhu Chohan, who joined the police department in 2008 and died of an inoperable, malignant brain tumor on Oct. 30, 2013.

The proclamation ceremony will begin at 4:45 p.m. followed by a parade led by the recruits of the Hoboken Junior Police Academy to Church Square Park.

Here are some of the other events that will highlight the night:

6 p.m. Plaque dedication to Detective Chohan’s family6:45 p.m. Preschool of Rock7:30 p.m. Watermelon eating contest featuring surprise guest judges8:15 p.m. Performance from Fire Dance Squad

Several local businesses in addition to police agencies will be out in full support of this night out against crime. There will also be bounce houses and water slides and other kids’ entertainment.
