Case still under investigation with the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

An elderly woman was found dead in her apartment at 1024 Clinton St. around 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, according to Lt. Mark Competello at the Hoboken Police Department.Â
Competello said the woman suffered "massive trauma to the head," inflicted with a 12 gauge shotgun, which Competello described as a "humongous" weapon. The woman lived in apartment 416, Competello said.Â
"We don't get many shootings," Competello said in a phone interview on Thursday. "We don't get many shootings of this nature."

The case is currently under investigation with the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office and the victim's body is being investigated by a medical examiner. The case was deemed a "suspicious death," which means that—after the Prosecutor's office finishes its investigation—it will be classified as either homicide or suicide, said Competello. Competello said that, seeing the trauma, it's unlikely that it was an accidental shooting.Â
