Hoboken Snow Totals Released; Updates On Schools, Recycling, More

The city gave updates on coronavirus testing and vaccine appointments amid a continuing snowstorm. See the updated Friday information here.

HOBOKEN, NJ — With more snow expected to continue in Hoboken into Friday afternoon, the public schools announced they'd be remote on Friday, just like Thursday. The city also gave updates on Thursday night on recycling pickup, coronavirus vaccine appointments, and more.

City of Hoboken updates

The city gave several updates just before 9 p.m. on Thursday night, including:

  • Emergency snow routes remain in effect into Friday morning. Discounted garage parking has been extended until 8 p.m. Saturday.
  • Street cleaning is suspended until Monday.
  • Garbage pickup is on schedule for Friday, but recycling was suspended for Thursday.
  • Covid testing and vaccine appointments through the city were on schedule for Friday.
  • Eight plows will continue to remove snow from the city overnight.
  • Residents are urged to assist the elderly with clearing snow.

Updated Hoboken forecast

For Hoboken, the National Weather Service had issued a Winter Storm Watch for Thursday at 4 a.m. through Friday at 7 p.m.

On Thursday evening, the forecast said:

  • Thursday night: Periods of snow and sleet, possibly mixed with freezing drizzle, becoming all snow after 3 a.m. Low around 28. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
  • Friday: Periods of light snow, mainly before 3pm. High near 34. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. Northeast wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
  • Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of light snow before 1 a.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 26. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph.

Earlier updates:

Hoboken had started pre-treating streets with brine, a form of saltwater, on Wednesday night to reduce the initial accumulation on the roads.

People were asked to move their cars from snow emergency routes by 1 a.m. Thursday, and street sweeping was canceled through Friday (more here: Hoboken Drivers: Move Your Cars.)
