Hoboken Parking Updates; Street Sweeping Suspended All Week

HOBOKEN, NJ — The city of Hoboken said it would continue to clear snow around town for the rest of the week, and street cleaning is suspended until this coming Monday. All other parking rules and regulations, including meters, remain in effect.

The city said late Tuesday, "The Office of Emergency Management is keeping snow emergency routes in effect overnight and into [Wednesday]. Any vehicles parked on snow emergency routes will be subject to towing. Snow emergency routes are necessary to move police, fire and ambulances throughout Hoboken in time of emergency for the safety and welfare of residents. Emergency snow routes in Hoboken are labeled with street signs that read 'No Parking When Road Is Snow Covered.' ” A map of emergency snow routes is available on the City website: www.hobokennj.gov/snow.

NJ Transit and PATH

On Tuesday, most NJ Transit bus and train service in North and Central Jersey was still suspended, while the Northeast Corridor and certain other train lines have limited service. Check your line at NJ.Transit.com. Most light rail trains are running on a limited schedule.

In a press conference Tuesday morning, Gov. Phil Murphy begged motorists to stay off the streets and to let highway workers continue to clear the snow. He said as much as 33 inches of snow fell in parts of Sussex and Morris counties.

He also gave updated coronavirus hospitalization statistics in the state. He said that during the storm on Monday, 254 patients were released from hospitals after battling the virus, and 297 were admitted. Read the governor's snow updates here.

Other Tuesday Hoboken snow updates

  • Property owners/occupants should have removed snow from sidewalks adjacent to their property by noon Tuesday. Snow should also be cleared along adjacent wheelchair ramps, curb cuts, and corners, and is the responsibility of the property owner. It is illegal to shovel snow back onto streets or onto fire hydrants. Residents are urged to assist elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing snow from their properties.
  • To report an unplowed street, unshoveled sidewalk, or other problem, residents can submit an online complaint via https://www.hobokennj.gov/ 311.
  • Discounted city garage parking through 4 p.m. Wednesday: The special rate of $5 per 24-hour period in Garages B (28 2nd Street) and D (215 Hudson Street) is now extended for residents currently parked in the garages with valid Resident On-Street Parking Permit or Temporary Parking Permits through 4 p.m. Wednesday. Regular rates will apply at all other times.

"Mayor Bhalla and the city thank residents for their patience while [cleaning up] occurs," the alert said.
