How to Protect Your Home From Flooding?

The city will teach you in a workshop next week.

The city is offering a workshop for all Hobokenites who are looking to flood-proof their homes.

From the city of Hoboken:

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, affected property owners all over the region are facing decisions on when, how, and where to rebuild.  This decision is especially important in light of the future high cost of flood insurance and increasing risks from coastal storms.  There are many nonstructural floodproofing techniques that can be used and participation in this workshop will enable you to better understand these options.

  • Acquisition/demolition/relocation
  • Dry and wet floodproofing
  • Costs for nonstructural floodproofing
  • NFIP Regulations
  • Biggert/Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012

Two national experts, Mr. Gene Barr and Mr. Larry Buss who were former members of the US Army Corps of Engineers National Nonstructural Floodproofing Committee, will be leading this workshop.  Gene and Larry bring decades of floodproofing experience and knowledge that can be applied in many situations, whether it be for residential structures or commercial businesses.
