Hudson County Covid Vaccine Update: Where To Get A Shot This Week
With more people eligible Monday, here are dozens of places to get a coronavirus vaccine in Hudson County, plus a Johnson & Johnson update.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Any New Jersey resident aged 16 and up becomes eligible for the coronavirus vaccine as of Monday.
Officials said on Sunday that the main Hudson County site in Kearny has 600 appointment slots available for Monday: https://hudsoncovidvax.org/

For now, the state has paused use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after six reported cases of an "extremely rare" side effect across the country. In New Jersey, about 200,000 of the 5 million people who have gotten at least one shot in New Jersey received Johnson & Johnson's vaccine, but Gov. Besides registering for an appointment on the state's hub for any of the state's six megasites, the state has been updating its list of Hudson County sites (see this week's updated list below), including with several community pharmacies in Hoboken, Jersey City, Bayonne, and more. Individual towns also have added their own sites (see below).

Chains like CVS, Walgreens Walmart, Sam's Club, Rite Aid, and ShopRite have been offering the shot. It's worth checking the sites several times daily, including early in the morning.

The city of Hoboken can register and pre-register those who want to receive the vaccine in Hoboken. Residents can use this site: http://www.hobokennj.gov/vaccinesignup

Communities in Jersey City got two vaccine sites at churches in underserved areas last month (see a story about that here), while Palisades Medical Center is administering more shots to residents of North Hudson towns.

- Messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines, including the two-dose Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, are a new type of vaccine that doesn't include the weakened virus, but teaches human cells to make a protein that triggers the immune response (read more about that here). The Johnson & Johnson one-dose vaccine is more traditional (see stories about all three vaccines here and here.) Doctors say that the important metric is that all three are effective in preventing serious illness and death from covid, and that having the majority of the public vaccinated, no matter which vaccine, will lessen the spread.
