Hudson County Getting 20,850 Covid Vaccines This Coming Week
Officials had recently expressed frustrations that Hudson had the lowest percentage of people vaccinated out of New Jersey's 21 counties.
HOBOKEN, NJ — After officials expressed frustrations that Hudson County had the lowest percentage of people vaccinated out of New Jersey's 21 counties, the county is finally getting a large ration of shots: 20,850 this coming week. (SEE EARLIER: Menendez Asks For More Vaccines For Hudson County)
Both state and federal officials committed to sending the doses for the public, a county spokesperson said.
The shipment is nearly triple that of any previous week’s allocation to the county and will include doses of the Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines that will be administered at the county’s vaccination site at the USS Juneau Center, as well as through municipal partner locations in Jersey City, North Hudson, Kearny, Bayonne and Hoboken, the county said.

The Governor's Office has advised Hudson County to expect 4,680 doses to be allocated through a partnership with FEMA and the State of New Jersey as part of the new federal vaccination site at New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark. This will ensure that Hudson County residents who are unable to travel to the new site will have access to vaccines. READ MORE: New Jersey's Largest Coronavirus Vaccine Site Opens In Newark
“The Hudson Regional Health Commission has worked closely with the County Administration and local health officers to ensure all of the necessary resources are in place for a successful vaccination program,” said Carrie Nawrocki, Executive Director of HRHC. “This increase in allocation is the much needed lifeline that our staff and volunteers have been preparing for since the onset of the pandemic. Along with our municipal partners, we are ready and able to efficiently administer these doses to county residents.”
As part of the effort to increase vaccine capacity, the county recently arranged the purchase of three medical grade freezers which will be used to store Pfizer doses at the USS Juneau Center, Jersey City and North Hudson sites.
Hoboken has also purchased a similar freezer that has already allowed the municipality to begin administering the Pfizer vaccine. Additionally, West New York announced earlier this week it has entered into a partnership with Holy Name Hospital to open a separate vaccine site in the city.
The main Hudson County Vaccine Distribution Center is operated by Hudson Regional Health Commission and overseen by County Executive Tom DeGise’s Vaccine Task Force, which includes representatives from the Hudson County Improvement Authority, the Hudson County Office of Emergency Management, County Department of Roads and Public Property, the Hudson County Schools of Technology and the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office. The center is located at the USS Juneau Center at 110 Hackensack in Kearny. Eligible individuals can make an appointment online by visiting hudsoncovidvax.org.
