Look Up: 100 Drones Set To Race In New Jersey Skies This Weekend
Competitors will race their drones in the skies above the Hudson River.

Liberty Science Center will be host to the Liberty Cup, a two-day aerial drone race with the New York skyline as a back drop this Saturday and Sunday.
Randy Slavin of Yeah Drones has been working with filming using drones since 2013 and founded the New York City Drone Film Festival in order to further the artistic use of the flying unmanned vehicles.
With the widespread use and interest in aerial drones as of late, Slavin and the CEO of the Liberty Science Center, Paul Hoffman saw a unique opportunity at hand.

"We have a great working relationship with Liberty," Slavin said. "Paul and I are really kindred spirits in that way."
In partnering together, they envisioned the Liberty Cup, a series of competitive aerial drone races the first of its kind in the New York/New Jersey area. Registered fliers can compete in solo races or freestyle aerial acrobatic events with spots in next week's US Drone Nationals on Governor's Island up for grabs.

The race is not just for the hardcore hobbyists either, families can and should bring their children to the event. "This is also for the young students who come and use the Liberty Science Center and for them to get interested in drones and science, in general."
The event is free to the public and registration information for competitors can be found here.
