NJ Sierra Club Endorses Barbara Buono for Governor
Buono slammed Gov. Chris Christie's position on the environment at a Hoboken press conference Wednesday afternoon.
Standing on Pier A Park with the New York City skyline in the backdrop, State Senator Barbara Buono accepted an endorsement from the New Jersey Sierra Club.
Buono, who is running against Gov. Chris Christie in November's election, blasted the governor for not doing enough to combat climate change.
"Quite honestly," Buono said, "to me it seems like the closer we get to 2016, the closer the Governor’s position on the environment gets to that of right-wing conservatives in the cornfields of Iowa."

"My focus is here in New Jersey," Buono continued. "I know that with 400,000 of our residents out of work and a shrinking middle class, restoring the economy has to be our top priority."
Jeff Tittel, the director of New Jersey's chapter of the Sierra Club praised Buono for her efforts to battle climate change, which is the state's "most pressing issue," he said.

Tittel said Hoboken was chosen as the location for the announcement, because of the flooding problems the city faces and the severe impact of Hurricane Sandy.
Hoboken Councilwoman Beth Mason attended the event, wearing a Barbara Buono sticker on her lapel.
