Not-So-Haunted House Tour In Hoboken: 2017 Event

Take a break from the spooky this Halloween during the Hoboken Historical Museum's annual House Tour on Sunday, Oct. 22.

HOBOKEN, NJ — They’re not quite haunted… but that doesn’t make them any less interesting. Take a break from the spooky this Halloween during the Hoboken Historical Museum’s annual Hoboken House Tour on Sunday, Oct. 22.

According to the museum, the annual fundraising tour of some of the city’s most interesting architectural homes will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include up to 10 private residences: Victorian brownstones and brand-new condos, “plus a few bonus historic sites.”

“Locations are kept secret until the day of the tour, but each year’s tour offers a fresh selection of homes with features that will appeal to fans of traditional, modern or eclectic décor. One home on this year’s tour (pictured at right) features a completely remodeled kitchen, while another is a comfortable, traditional brownstone filled with artworks created by the artist couple who own it and by many of their friends. Points of interest on the tour include two 100-plus-year-old houses of worship, and two monuments to WWI soldiers.”

The self-guided tour takes about two to three hours on foot. Houses open at 10 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. Homes may be visited in any order. A map will be included in the House Tour booklet, available only on the day of the tour, at one of two starting points: The Hoboken Historical Museum, 1301 Hudson St., or the Fire Department Museum, 213 Bloomfield St.

A limited number of VIP tickets are for sale at $125, which includes an additional three tour homes and brunch at specially selected restaurants along the route. Advance tickets are available online at www.eventbrite.com or from a link on the Museum’s website, www.hobokenmuseum.org.

Ticket sales are limited, and tours have sold out in past years. No tickets will be sold after 2 p.m. on Oct. 22. Proceeds from ticket sales help support the museum’s exhibitions and operations.

Anyone interested in volunteering can inquire at volunteer@hobokenmuseum.org. In exchange for helping out at a tour location for three and a half hours, volunteers receive a free ticket to take the tour before or after their shift.
