Police Blotter: Sex Offender Sleeping in Pier A Park
Police say the man failed to register as a sex offender.

Hoboken police located a sex offender by the name of Samuel Perez in Pier A Park on Tuesday night, around 9:15 p.m., according to a police report on the matter.Â
According to the report, Perez, 38, told the police he was getting ready to go to sleep on a bench in the park, but that his intent had been to stay in the shelter on 300 Bloomfield St. According to the report, he told police that he had already been in Hoboken for two days.Â
While running a background check on Perez, Hoboken police found out that he has a history as a sex offender, and Perez was arrested for failure to register as such, according to the report.Â

According to Hoboken police, "it was determined that (Perez) had an extensive violent criminal history in the state of Florida which included Aggravated Kidnapping, False Imprisonment and Carnal Intercourse, which constitutes having intercourse with an unmarried and underage female."
According to Hoboken police, Perez failed to register as a sex offender in Florida in 2007.

Perez was arrested and taken to police headquarters, according to the police report.Â
