School Board Hires New Connors School Principal

Superintendent Peter Carter recommended Laurinda Pereira to the Board.

The Board of Education unanimously approved to hire a new principal for the Connors School during Tuesday night's meeting, after Superintendent Peter Carter recommended Laurinda Pereira to the board during a closed session. 

Pereira currently serves as building admnistrator in the North Arlington public schools, said Carter. Carter said he's convinced that although Pereira has only served as assistant principal in a secondary school, she'll be up to the task of becoming principal of the Connors School. 

"This woman struck me as someone who could come in an effect the positive change that we need in the connors school," Carter said.

The board discussed the issue during an hour-long closed session—in which the board also discussed the elimination of the stipend for an Adult Education Director and hiring a consulting firm to conduct the search for a new superintendent.

The Connors School, a building in dire need of renovation, was supposed to get renovated during the upcoming school year. will not be coming in, even though the district was ready to begin reconstruction.

Pereira will be earning $125.136 annually, according to Carter. She'll start on August 1, in time for the 2010-2011 school year.
