Several New Businesses Open In Hoboken For 2021
A Frank Sinatra speakeasy, Lovesac furniture, Cool Vines wine, rare vintage sneakers, and more are coming to the mile-square city.

HOBOKEN, NJ — This may not be the most ideal time to open a business, but it depends on the type of business. Everyone still needs to eat and drink. And rest.
Several new restaurants and other types of businesses have set up their storefronts in preparation to open in 2021. Here are a few. (Do you have a business in Hoboken? Send news here.)

You better sit down. "Our Hoboken, New Jersey showroom is home to The World’s Most Adaptable Couch and The World's Most Comfortable Seat ... Whether you're looking for a sectional couch, bean bag chair, outdoor furniture, or even just an ottoman, our Hudson County area showroom has something to fit your needs," says the website for the newly opened store. It's part of a small chain.

Back in August, months before he opened this store on Washington Street, Hoboken eighth grader Jojo Petruzzelli, 11, briefly opened a vintage sneaker pop-up to raise money for the Jubilee Center, which runs an after-school program with Hoboken kids. Now he's back with a storefront for two months, selling his rare "kicks."
The last effort raised $1,250 for the Jubilee Center, a spokesperson said. The new pop-up opened on Dec. 12 and will last for two months. A portion of the proceeds will go to the center again.
Rexer gallery, 636 Washington St.
You gotta have art. Rexer, a contemporary (and palindromic) gallery, shows works by area artists. It's now open at 636 Washington St.
See the list of their artists currently exhibiting here. They also plan to include work from the Hudson School faculty and students.
Frank Sinatra speakeasy
Meanwhile, Monroe's — an "American Fusion" restaurant that opened in February 2020 on the former site of the Clam Broth House on Newark Avenue — plans to host a speakeasy called The Sinatra Room two days each week in spring, says a story on HobokenGirl. Sinatra's dad reportedly ran his own speakeasy a little under 100 years ago on Jefferson Street called M.O.B. Association (for the name he sometimes used, Marty O' Brien). See a photo of that speakeasy here.
There's more. The latest in the local Coolvines group of wine stores, which has shops in Jersey City and Newark, opened at 211 Washington St. recently. If you've walked into their shop in Jersey City's Powerhouse Arts District and seen a little spot reserved for dogs, you know they're a friendly place.
