Hoboken Under Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Heavy rain expected in Hoboken, mostly before midnight on Saturday.

Dark clouds moved into Hoboken late afternoon on Saturday as the area was placed under a tornado watch until 9 p.m. 

The Italian Festival in Frank Sinatra Park canceled some events, due to the weather, the Jersey Journal reported. 

The procession and fireworks that mark the end of the festival were postponed until Sunday, which is forecast to be a sunny day.

A tornado warning was in effect until 9 p.m. on Saturday. 

The National Weather Service predicted the following for the evening:

Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Low around 63. Southwest wind 8 to 18 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
