Sinatra Drive Closed on Sundays This Summer
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the summer months
Hoboken City Council approved the closing of Sinatra Drive on Sundays during the months of June, July and August. September was taken from the resolution.Â
The road will be closed to cars—but open to recreational use and pedestrians—from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. every Sunday.Â
Councilwoman Theresa Castellano said she was concerned about the safety aspect of the plan. "Can I have four more votes against this?" she asked her council colleagues.Â

Councilman David Mello (who sits on the Transportation and Parking subcommittee with Castellano) said he had spoken to the Fire and Police Chiefs to discuss safety issues.Â
Councilwoman Beth Mason proposed that the road would only be closed during the summer months and asked Director of Transportation and Parking Ian Sacs to remove September from the resolution.

"I don't understand why we're doing it in the first place," said Councilman Michael Russo.Â
Councilman Nino Giacchi asked Sacs to report back to the council in a month, to see if people are using the closed off road.Â
The Director will report back, but in the meantime, Sinatra Drive will be closed to cars every Sunday.
