Water Main Break on Willow Ave, Sixth One In a Week
A water main break disrupted water service on downtown Willow Avenue on Friday night.

A water main break on Thursday night disrupted water service on downtown Willow Avenue on Friday morning, according to officials on the scene.
The break is the sixth one in about a week, following a major water main break last Thursday, when construction workers hit a 30-inch main in uptown Hoboken.
Residents took to Twitter on Friday morning, complaining about the amount of water main breaks.

The main break comes two days after Mayor Dawn Zimmer announced she is looking to change the city's contract with United Water.
The city is currently in an agreement that is not set to expire until 2024 and allows United Water to invest a maximum of $350,000 in Hoboken's water system per year. This, Zimmer said, is not enough to handle the aging infrastructure.
United Water spokesman Steven Goudsmith earlier in the week said that "We recognize and have long said that Hoboken’s water infrastructure is aging and would be happy to sit down with Mayor Zimmer and her staff to set forth a capital improvement plan." Goudsmith didn't specify if United Water is open to terminating the contract and entering into a new one.
