Still Unclear When Pier C Park Will Open
Director says equipment has been ordered and that she will meet with the architect early next week.

Summer may have come and gone so quickly that you have forgotten about Pier C Park.
In July, City Council decided to replace (what was described as) state of the art equipment because it got scorching hot in the sun. Earlier in the year, the Administration had predicted a July 1 opening of the park.Â
Pier C hasn't opened yet.Â

Director of Environmental Services Jennifer Maier said on Thursday afternoon in City Hall that the new play equipment has been ordered, as well as a shade canopy that will be placed to protect the end of a long slide from getting too hot.Â
The pieces of equipment in question are a steel dome, the end of a slide, as well as several bounce buttons and a small slide in the so-called "toddler area" of the park.

In July, Maier said that the shade structure—which will be placed to protect the end of the park's long slide—will cost roughly $38,000 and the new equipment for the "toddler area" will be $45,000.Â
Maier said that the play equipment is expected to come in in about two-and-a-half weeks. She said the shade canopy will come in in October, but she did not have an exact date.Â
But, she added, waiting for these items shouldn't be too much of a hold up.Â
Among other work being done on the park is the wiring of the railing, of which the top part will light up at night.Â
Maier said she received a four-page memo from Mark Pattin, architect of the park from the Massachusetts-based firm Van Valkenburgh Associates with the latest information. Maier said she intends to meet with Pattin early next week, after which she said she will have more information on the project.Â
She could not yet predict an opening date.Â
In a previous interview, Mayor Dawn Zimmer said that Pier C Park is supposed to provide children with a "unique" playing experience. In June the mayor took a select group of Hoboken's kids to test drive the park.
Stay tuned to Patch early next week for more information on the project.Â
