This Week's Hudson County Coronavirus Numbers And Trends

Eighteen Hudson County residents passed away from the virus in the past week.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — While Hudson County is still losing residents to coronavirus and thousands more are testing positive each week, there is some positive news among week's trends.

This Friday's numbers from the state indicate that Hudson County lost 18 residents to coronavirus since last Friday. The previous week, 25 residents had passed away due to the virus. The death toll in the county from the virus is 1,991 confirmed deaths.

But the numbers indicate that cases rose this past week at a greater rate than the week before. Hudson County has seen a total of 78,104 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic. Last week, the number was 76,100 cases. The increase is 2,004 cases, or 2.6 percent. That's up from the previous week's increase of 1,368 new cases, or 1.8 percent.

As of this past Monday, any resident 16 and up could get vaccinated, which should have an impact on deaths and cases in the future. (As of Friday, 2.6 million New Jersey residents had been vaccinated.)

The disease’s impact is reflected in the state Department of Health's most recent "COVID-19 Activity Level Report," issued weekly.

State and national numbers

On Friday, there were 27 new confirmed deaths in the state from the virus since the previous day, bringing the New Jersey toll to 22,717. There were 2,114 hospitalizations as of Wednesday, the last day the hospitalization numbers were released.

As of Friday, across the country, approximately 570,977 Americans had died of the virus. (You can see which states had the highest death toll in the past week on this CDC map.)
