Kiersten Gormeley, who founded Shaka Bowl in Hoboken, beat her competitors Tuesday to earn the title on the Food Network program.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Kiersten Gormeley, one of the founders of Shaka Bowl in Hoboken, beat out two competitors on Tuesday night's episode of TV's "Chopped" to become the newest "Chopped Champion."
The restaurant announced on Thursday, "Since she was a little girl it’s been @chefkiersteng dream to be on the Food Network's Chopped. With an underlying passion for food, a need for a healthier food option on the market, a burning sensation to create, and the strongest perseverance to never give up on her dreams, Kiersten is now officially a Chopped Champion."
Kiersten and her sister Krista Gormeley opened the two Hoboken locations of Shaka Bowl after a post-college vacation in Hawaii in 2014 turned them on to poke bowls and acai — for the nutritional benefits and for the affordability.
