Women’s World Cup Teammates To Face Off At Red Bull Arena In NJ

The Aug. 18 matchup between Sky Blue and Reign FC has been moved to Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ due to a high demand for tickets.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — If you’re looking to catch some members of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team in action following their thrilling World Cup win last month, you’re not alone.

Due to the demand for tickets, the Sunday, Aug. 18 matchup between New Jersey’s professional women’s soccer team Sky Blue FC and Washington-based Reign FC will be moved from Rutgers’ Yurcak Field to Red Bull Arena in Harrison.

The Aug. 18 game was originally slated to take place at Yurcak Field on the Rutgers University campus in Piscataway, which can hold about 5,000 fans. Red Bulls arena in Harrison can seat about 25,000.

Sky Blue will honor all prior ticket sales and will be reaching out to purchasers with more information about seating location and game details, the team stated in a news release.

The team has a promotional code that fans can enter for a discounted rate on tickets: "NJYS." The discounted tickets are $18 for endline/corner seats or $28 for center and mid-field. (Learn more and purchase tickets)

Spokespeople with Sky Blue said the matchup is expected to be the biggest crowd in the team’s history. It will also be the first-ever National Women’s Soccer League game played at Red Bull Arena.

One storyline generating interest in the Aug. 18 game involves an on-field reunion for Sky Blue Captain Carli Lloyd, a Delran native, who will take the opposite side of the field against her World Cup teammate, Megan Rapinoe.

Lloyd said she was thrilled with the attention the matchup with Reign FC is generating.

“We’re beyond excited that we have to move the game to Red Bull Arena because fan interest is so high,” Lloyd said. “This will be a great experience for my teammates, and another opportunity for Sky Blue to continue building toward a successful and sustainable future.”

“This is a big moment for our club, our players and fans,” agreed Sky Blue Interim General Manager Alyse LaHue. “We asked our fans if they would support this idea and they very definitively said yes.”
