5 Fun Things to Do This Summer on Lake Hopatcong

Lake Hopatcong is home to over 10,000 residents, but thousands more flock to the area for the summer months. And here's why!

Lake Hopatcong is the largest, fresh water body in all of New Jersey. Measuring 4 square miles, people flock from around the state to enjoy the beautiful lake we call home. Whether you’ve lived in Hopatcong for decades, recently moved, or are just visiting, there are endless possibilities for family fun this summer. With so many events and activities around the lake, you’re sure to find something for everyone. Check out this top five list.

1. Ride the Miss Lotta

When it comes to dinner cruises on the lake, you’ll be hard pressed to find one as enchanting and elegant as the Miss Lotta. This 57-foot SkipperLiner offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and specialty cruises. Guests can host weddings, banquets, and historical tours with Hopatcong’s own Marty Kane. If you’re looking to host a themed party, why not try a ladies night sip and paint or whiskey and cigars for the men? The boat houses a full dining room, full bar, and amazing audio-visual system. The Miss Lotta runs six days a week from May to October, so visitors and natives have plenty of opportunities to book a trip on this intimate cruise line.

2. Visit Hopatcong State Park

The Hopatcong State Park,located in Landing, showcases sandy beaches, playgrounds, hiking trails, boat ramp, basketball courts, and museum. Families from across the state flock to the park on summer weekends to picnic, BBQ, and swim. The boat launch allows lake lovers to take their favorite water crafts out for the day. You’ll see everything from speed boats and fishing boats to patio boats and even those powered using marine lithium batteries. If you prefer staying on dry land, you can enjoy volleyball by the beach, delicious goodies from the snack bar, and hours of fun on the playgrounds and hiking trails. The State Park also has a rich history which visitors can learn more about in the museum located right on the grounds.

3. Castle Cove Mini Golf and Arcade

When it comes to family fun, nothing beats miniature golf and an arcade. Except fun on the lake. Castle Cove Mini Golf and Arcade, located on Lake Hopatcong in Jefferson, is a great place for families, kids, couples, and adults who want to be kids again. The Cove’s 18-hole mini golf course overlooks picturesque Lake Hopatcong. After you’re done beating your best score, or your friends, take the fun inside to play some classic arcade games, ICE ball, air hockey and basketball toss. The best part is, this family fun night is relatively inexpensive. And after your work up an appetite, visitors can dine at Alice’s or head over to the nearby Jefferson Diner.

4. Fine Dining on the Water

Eating on Lake Hopatcong is a treat in itself. Especially when you travel by boat. If you’re looking for a more upscale dining experience, Stone Water, The Windlass, or Pavinci are great choices. All these eateries offer outdoor seating where guests can take in gorgeous views with their dinner and drinks. Stone Water prides itself on the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the deck area. The Windlass is an iconic spot on the lake, founded in 1963, with a rich history. Pavinci offers live music on weekends and a lively bar crowd. Other places to stop on your way around the lake include The Jefferson House and Patrick’s Pub.

5. Fly High Watersports

Are you an adrenaline junkie? Do you love adventure? If so, Fly High Watersports is a must-see during your time on Lake Hopatcong. Located on Nolan’s Point Road, this is a favorite spot for both natives and visitors to the area. There’s no better way to take-in the state’s largest lake than high above the ground. This action-packed company offers flyboard and jetpack rentals along with jetblades and hoverboards. Due to the extreme nature of these activities, all participants must be 13 years of age, a minimum of 100 lbs., and a confident swimmer. All visitors under the age of 18 must have a signed waiver from a parent. Fly High Watersports takes both fun and safety very seriously.

There’s no shortage of activities available on Lake Hopatcong during the summer months. Spend hours tasting different food and drinks, listening to bands, or having fun in the water. But Lake Hopatcong fun isn't just for summer folk. Winter lovers unite for ice fishing, ice skating, and snowmobiling!
