Children's Chorus Performs at National Conference

The Children's Chorus of Sussex County recently performed at a national conference.

The Children’s Chorus of Sussex County was one of three choirs invited to perform at the recent American Choral Directors Association National Retreat in Morristown. The two-day event honored the late composer Betty Bertaux, Founder and Artistic Director of the Children’s Chorus of Maryland. The Children’s Chorus of Sussex County, under the direction of Founder and Artistic Director Deborah Mello, performed alongside the New Jersey Youth Choir and the Princeton Girlchoir at the United Methodist Church in Morristown. Each choir performed a Bertaux composition individually and then performed additional works by Bertaux as an ensemble. Dignitaries in attendance included Tim Sharp, National President of the American Choral Directors Association, and Syracuse University faculty member, author and Syracuse Children’s Chorus founder Dr. Barbara Tagg.

The Children’s Chorus of Sussex County (CCSC) serves school-aged children in and around Sussex County, New Jersey, by providing a comprehensive choral music program. This sequential program has two ensembles: Bella Voce for beginning and intermediate singers in grades 2 – 6, and Concert Choir for advanced singers in grades 7 – 12. The organization also features a beginning music experience, Musikgarten music class for children in kindergarten and first grade. The choirs perform in two annual concerts, and take advantage of different performing opportunities locally and regionally. The Concert Choir has also performed extensively throughout North America and Europe.

CCSC is grateful for the support it receives from the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council. To schedule an audition, or to find out more about the Children’s Chorus of Sussex County, call Deborah Mello at 973-670-4556 or visit www.ccscsings.org.
