COVID-19 Vaccination Notifications Upgraded In Sussex County

Those who live, work or attend school in Sussex County can now register to be notified of upcoming available appointments.

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ - Those who live, work or attend school in Sussex County can now register to be notified of upcoming available appointments for the County of Sussex COVID-19 vaccine clinics at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.

Due to the limited availability of COVID-19 vaccines distributed by the State of New Jersey to each county, the County of Sussex has developed this new notification system, to streamline the process of making an appointment.

“Sussex County has moved swiftly in response to serious flaws in the state’s rollout of its centralized vaccination registration system,” said Sussex County Board of County Commissioners Director Dawn Fantasia. “The fact that our county registration system is now capable of screening for county residency status and implementing a registrant notification system, should help streamline the process of obtaining an appointment for an available vaccination.”

As of Feb. 21, the County of Sussex has administered 4,331 first doses and 839 second doses of the Moderna vaccine at the Fairgrounds’ clinics, currently providing 1,000 vaccines weekly.

Only those who live, work or attend school within Sussex County are eligible to book an appointment for the clinics at the Sussex County Fairgrounds. Those who schedule an appointment for one of these clinics, must also meet current State of New Jersey criteria to receive COVID-10 vaccinations.

“Although the Augusta site is capable of administering 1,200 vaccines per week, the fact that we have yet to receive that amount from the State of New Jersey is also negatively impacting our ability to vaccinate those who need it most,” Fantasia said. “We will continue to advocate for improved communication and increased vaccine supply for the people of Sussex County.”

Though registration is not a guarantee of an appointment time, once an individual has registered within the appointment notification system, they will receive an email blast when new appointment blocks are available. After registering with the County, an individual will remain in the notification system, until they have been scheduled for a vaccination appointment.

The County of Sussex encourages individuals to register for vaccine clinics through similar appointment notification systems with other vaccine providers, with a list of providers in the region found at: www.sussex.nj.us/COVID19 and by clicking on the “Get Vaccinated” banner. If an individual has secured an appointment through another provider and also registered with the County of Sussex notification system, they will need to request to have their name removed from the County of Sussex notification system.

When attending the vaccine clinic at the Sussex County Fairgrounds, an individual will be asked to furnish proof of their residency, school attendance or employment within Sussex County, prior to being vaccinated.
