Drunken Driver Crashed Into Cop Car, Police Say

21-year-old charged with assault by auto in addition to DWI.

A Hopatcong woman was charged Wednesday with assault by auto and reckless driving, as well as DWI, when she drove her car into a police vehicle, according to Hopatcong Police Lt. Thomas Kmetz.

Caitlin Jones, 21, was also charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance after Kmetz said a heroin fold was found in her car.

Jones was driving around 8 p.m. and came to the intersection of Mast Road and Durban Avenue. Ptl. Anthony Cirri was driving on Durban Avenue.

Cirri tried to stop his vehicle, but was unable before Jones crashed her car into his, Kmetz said.

A search warrant for blood samples was obtained and Jones was taken to the hospital for such. She was later released and charged.
