DWIs To Blame For Recent Sparta Accidents: Police
Newton man causes two accidents while driving drunk, police say.

Sparta Police released the following recent accident reports:
At approximately 6:53 PM on the 9th of August, Sparta police were alerted to an accident on Route 15 in Jefferson Township where the suspect had fled the scene. En route, they were advised another accident had just occurred on the Sparta Junction. When the patrols arrived, they found the same vehicle that had fled the scene of the Route 15 incident, a 2004 GMC van. Police Officer Taylor May spoke to the driver of the vehicle, a 32 -year-old from Newton, and determined he was driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver was charged with DWI, Refusal to Submit to Breath Tests, Careless Driving and Failure to Inspect. He was released several hours later. His court date is pending.
On the same day, at about 7:03 PM, police went to South Short Trail where a report had been made of a one-car accident. Police Officer Chris Favaro found a 2014 Acura had left the road and struck a parked car and a rock wall. According to police, the 41-year-old driver from Sparta said she swerved to avoid a deer and lost control of the car as a consequence. Officers determined that she was driving while intoxicated and she was charged with DWI, Careless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane and Failure to Keep Right. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries and will be served with charges once released.
