Former Sparta Police Lieutenant Passes Away
Nick Irons was a member of the Sparta Police Department for 25 years.

SPARTA, NJ — Former Sparta Police Lieutenant Nick Irons passed away last week at 73.
In addition to serving as a police officer, Irons taught criminal justice at Morris County Community College, taught 911 dispatchers through PowerPhone, volunteered with the fire department and played Santa Claus in during the holiday season.

He volunteered for Centurian Ministries in Princeton seeking freedom for the wrongly sentenced to death. He was a founding member of Blue Knights New Jersey IX Chapter Motorcycle Club in Sparta. He was also a member of the following Motorcycle Clubs: The North Jersey Harley Davidson OwnersGroup, the Old Coots on Scoots Chapter 47 Club, and the Colonial Chapter Club. He worked with the Blue Knights for the following charities; Garlic Run, Make A Wish Foundation and Hospice. Nick was an active member of Christian Faith Fellowship Church and a participant with The In HimRecovery Group.
Irons is survived by his wife Arleen Grimsland Irons; his children, Daniel and his wife Dana, Melissa, Michael, Christopher and his wife Meredith, and Heidi; his grandchildren, Donald, Daniel, Austin, Cameron and Allison; and his siblings, Jean Riley and Jeffrey Irons.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in his memory to either the Harvey C. Irons Memorial Make A Wish Ride (make checks payable to BKNJIX, PO Box 251, Lake Hopatcong, NJ 07849) or to Christian Faith Fellowship Church in Franklin, NJ.
