Government Infighting Leads To Lawsuit In Hopatcong
Hopatcong Municipal Clerk files lawsuit against borough for being barred from executive sessions of council meetings.

The municipal clerk of Hopatcong is suing the borough for barring her against attending three executive sessions of council meetings this past summer, according to a piece in the NJ Herald. According to the the article, the lawsuit agains the borough was filed in the Morris County Superior Court on September 2 by Joseph J. Bell, on the behalf of Schultz.
The clerk, who has been with the borough since 2011, claims that she was unlawfully excluded from the executive sessions of the Borough Council on three dates--June 15, July 6, and August 3--when as "secretary of the governing body," Schultz must be present at every meeting, reports the NJ Herald. Furthermore, the article states that Schultz believes her exclusion was a result of an internal complaint she and other municipal employees filed against the current Borough Administrator, Robert Elia.
