HOPATCONG, NJ - With a grant received by Atlantic Health System, the Hopatcong Borough Police Department was able to maintain carrying Narcan in their patrol vehicles and to provide the Hopatcong Ambulance Squad with Narcan to carry on their ambulances.

"The opioid epidemic is very real and the fight is ongoing," police said in a statement. "In Hopatcong, the police department responds to all medical calls and is at times the initial first responder on the scene."

Authorities said that sometimes due to multiple ongoing calls, they can't always be the first on the scene.
