Groundbreaking Ceremony Marks First Step in Hopatcong Revitalization Efforts

The Hopatcong revitalization plans have been in the works for five years.

The groundbreaking of Brookland at Lakepointe, a multi-use building to be built near Hopatcong’s troubled River Styx Bridge area, signifies more than months of construction.

Monday’s ceremony was the beginning of an effort to revitalize the area that has been attempting to come to fruition for nearly five years.

“Today is an exciting day in the borough of Hopatcong,” said Mayor Petillo. “This wonderful groundbreaking ceremony represents a culmination of five years of challenges, patience and persistence; and it celebrates our hope and our vision for the redevelopment of River Styx.”

The 20,432-square-foot development will be dedicated to street-level retail space and boast 15 condominium units on its second floor. Construction on the building will officially begin early next week, according to Dave Gunia, division president at Greenpoint Development Group.

The project is expected to be completed by spring or summer 2015. Pricing for retail and condo spaces has yet to be determined.
