Hopatcong Gets its First Girls on the Run Team
Registration for the fall 2014 program begins Tuesday.
With more than 200 chapters in the U.S., Hopatcong is giving girls grades 3 to 5 a way to stay active, foster confidence and community.
Girls on the Run New Jersey North announced that Hopatcong is getting its very own team starting this fall.
The 10-week, 24-lesson curriculum is designed to empower girls by instilling lessons such as self-awareness, sense of achievement and team building. Topics include dealing with body image and the media, coping with peer pressure, making healthy decisions and contributing to the community.
The program also integrates running into these core lessons and concludes with a 5K that will take place Nov. 15 at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.
Fall registration begins Tuesday at 7 p.m. The girls will meet Monday and Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Hopatcong High School.
