Hopatcong HS Students' Sculpture to be Displayed
Large Scale Toothbrush displayed at Hopatcong Dental

Hopatcong High School students’ large-scale sculpture will be displayed at Hopatcong Dental. Students recently finished large rigid foam sculptures inspired by the large-scale installations by Ms. Van Bruggen and Mr. Oldenburg created more than 40 public sculptures for parks, urban centers and museums.
Students were tasked with choosing everyday objects to enlarge with the rigid foam. Objects such as keys, utensils, and (in this case) a toothbrush were measured accurately and scaled up to the larger size. In this group project, many 21stcentury skills are employed, including; critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. The students become fully engaged in the construction process, and enjoy seeing their final creations so much larger than life.
“When ever possible we try to display the large-scale sculptures in areas relative to the objects, such as the 14ft. fork in the cafeteria. So, when we had a group of students build a giant toothbrush, I thought to contact a local dentist. Dr. Brandon Schmidt at Hopatcong Dental was so excited to have the opportunity to display the students’ toothbrush sculpture,” says sculpture teacher, Mr. Rischawy.
