Jennie Bisognano, Formerly of Hopatcong, Dies at 92

Bisognano was a sewer for Grossman Clothing for many years prior to moving to the borough.

Jennie Zangla Bisognano, a former New York seamstress who lived for years in Hopatcong, died last Tuesday at Holly Manor Care Center in Mendham, according to a notice on the website for Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home. She was 92.

Born in New York City, she lived in Italy, where she married Santo Bisognano and started her family. She moved back to the city of her birth in 1946 and worked as a seamstress for Grossman Clothing. Eventually the Bisognanos moved to Hopatcong.  

Bisognano's husband died in 1982, and their son Dominick died in 2010. She thrived as a member of the Hopatcong Seniors and is said to have enjoyed sewing and knitting.

Jennie Bisognano is survived by her two surviving children, Anthony “Tony” Bisognano and Maria DeRoide; grandchildren Michael, Donna and Debra DeRoide; Tony, Lisa, Joanna and Diana Bisognano; and Tina Provancal; six great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and brother Frank Zangla.

A prayer service for Bisognano is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road in Landing.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations are made in her name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73123-1718.
